Baseball Honors
A pair of CAA baseball players earned All-America accolades
from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association while 14 players from
the conference were recognized on the ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region squad.
Hofstra senior outfielder Danny Poma was chosen to the NCBWA All-America first team, adding
to a first team All-America honor he received from Louisville
Slugger/Collegiate Baseball. Poma, who was the 2012 CAA Player of the Year,
batted .430 with a school-record 102 hits, a CAA-record 32 doubles and 78 runs
scored. He also contributed seven homers, 48 RBI's and 29 stolen bases.
George Mason junior relief pitcher Chris O'Grady was selected to the NCBWA All-America third team. O'Grady
was 2-0 with a school record-tying 14 saves and a 1.22 ERA this season. The
first-team All-CAA pick fanned 51 in 37 innings and limited opponents to a .163
batting average.
Poma and O'Grady were two of the 10 CAA players named to the
All-East Region first team. Joining them were William & Mary senior pitcher

12 HR, 43 RBI's), VCU sophomore outfielder Bill
Cullen (.347, 62 R, 40 RBI's), UNCW senior outfielder Thomas Pope (.372, 6 HR, 46 RBI's) and George Mason senior
designated hitter Zach Helgeson
(.295, 15 HR, 51 RBI's).
The CAA also had four players make the All-East Region
second team. Named to the squad were UNCW senior pitcher Tyler McSwain (9-4, 3.18 ERA), VCU junior relief pitcher Blake Hauser (5-2, 10 saves, 3.03 ERA),
George Mason senior shortstop Brig Tison
(.370, 44 R, 34 RBI's) and VCU sophomore third baseman Joey Cujas (.390, 3 HR, 49 RBI's).
