Hofstra SB Recognized By Mets
Hempstead, N.Y. - After posting the best season in program history, the Hofstra Softball team will be recognized in a pregame ceremony at Citi Field on Monday, June 18 before the Mets face the Baltimore Orioles at 7 p.m.
Hofstra finished the 2012 campaign with a 42-15 record and the program's first-ever appearance in the Super Regionals. Head Coach Bill Edwards' team won its ninth Colonial Athletic Association championship in 11 years before knocking off 12-time national champion UCLA and San Diego State twice to win the Los Angeles Regional.
The Pride set a school record with 21 straight victories, culminating with a Game 1 victory over No. 19 South Florida in Game 1 of the Tampa Super Regional. The Bulls won both Games 2 and 3 by a single run as Hofstra fell one victory shy of reaching the Women's College World Series.
The event will mark the second time in two seasons that a Hofstra athletics member will be recognized by the Mets. Last May, former Hofstra guard Charles Jenkins threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a game between the Mets and Marlins.
Most of the players and the entire coaching staff is expected to attend the event, including first-team All-American junior Olivia Galati, who is coming off a 34-7 season in which she led Division I with a 0.95 ERA while registering 378 strikeouts in 280 2/3 innings. She is the reigning three-time CAA Pitcher of the Year. Also expected to attend are NFCA All-Region members Rachael Senatore, Tessa Ziemba and Erin Trippi.
Hofstra finished with a 40-win season for the sixth time in the last eight seasons, including a 22-0 total record against CAA teams en route to the first undefeated conference showing in program history.
