Verburg Takes Fourth In 400 Meter Dash
DES MOINES, Iowa (June 8, 2012) - George Mason junior David Verburg's record-shattering
individual collegiate season came to a close Friday evening, as he finished
fourth in the finals of the 400 meter dash at day three of the NCAA Outdoor Track and
Field Championships on the campus of Drake University.
Verburg, who advanced to the finals after winning his heat
on the meet at Wednesday, crossed the finish line in a time of 45.22 to take
the fourth spot. Florida's Tony McQuay captured the title with a 44.58-second
time, while Oregon's Mike Berry and Texas Tech's Gil Roberts rounded out the
medal winners at 44.75 and 44.99, respectively.
For Verburg, it concluded an outstanding season in which he
won the 400 meter title at the CAA and IC4A
Championships while earning the top spot at the NCAA East Regionals. He earned
the Men's Track Performer of the Meet award at the CAA Championships, and was
named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Male Track Athlete of the Year. He set a
new career best with his 45.06-second time in the 400 at the CAAs, the
second-fastest in school history and an Olympic Trials 'A' qualifying time.
He will have another chance at a national title as he
competes as a part of the men's 4x400m relay tomorrow at 1:40 pm.
