CAA NAMES WRESTLERS, ROOKIES OF THE MONTH FOR DECEMBER

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (December 20, 2011) -- P.J.
Gillespie of Hofstra University and Donnie Vinson of Binghamton University are
the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestlers of the Month and Derak Heyman of
Binghamton is the CAA Rookie of the Month, for all competition November
30-December 19.
Gillespie, a senior 165 from
Long Beach, N.Y., finished runner-up at the prestigious Cliff
Keen-Las Vegas Invitational, losing 4-2 to the third ranked wrestler in the
nation from Wyoming.
Gillespie went 5-1 last month
to improve to 11-1 on the season and is now ranked third by InterMat, fourth by W.I.N. Magazine and
fifth by Amateur Wrestling News.
Vinson, a junior 149 from
Marathon, N.Y., placed runner-up at the Penn State Open and
placed fourth at the Reno Tournament of Champions, winning 10 of 12 matches.
His only losses came to the top and fifth ranked wrestlers in the nation.
Vinson picked up three
majors, a tech fall and a pair of pins in his last 10 wins and moved up to
sixth in the nation by Amateur Wrestling
News, seventh by InterMat and
ninth by W.I.N.
Heyman, a freshman 141 from
Barton, NY (Tioga), placed eighth at the Penn State Open, winning four matches
on the day.
Beginning January 3 the CAA Wrestler and Rookie Awards
return to their weekly format.
