SIX-TEAM FIELD SET FOR 2011 VIRGINIA 529 CAA FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP
RICHMOND,
Va. (Oct. 30, 2011) - The field is set for the Virginia 529 2011 CAA Field
Hockey Championship, which will be held November 3, 5 and 6 at Old Dominion's
Powhatan Sports Complex in Norfolk, Va.
After
sweeping through the CAA schedule with a perfect 8-0 record Old Dominion has
earned the No. 1 seed and will play on its home field. The defending CAA
champion Lady Monarchs, who are currently the No. 1 ranked squad in the NFHCA
poll, boast an 18-2 overall record after losing to No. 2 ranked North Carolina
Sunday afternoon.
Northeastern
has earned the No. 2 seed after finishing the regular-season with a 5-3 mark in
CAA play and 13-6 overall. After starting the conference slate 0-2, the Huskies
rebounded with five-consecutive CAA wins and will be looking for their first-ever
CAA field hockey title.
After
missing last year's championship, Hofstra returns as the No. 3 seed. The Pride
are 12-8 overall with a 5-3 record in CAA play. The No. 3 seed is the highest
Hofstra has earned since it was the No. 3 team in the 2006 CAA Championship.
James
Madison is the No. 4 seed with an 8-9 overall record and 4-4 mark in league
play. The Dukes earned the tie-breaker for the fourth spot based on
head-to-head wins over both No. 5 Delaware and No. 6 Towson. JMU will look to
win its first CAA title since capturing three-straight crowns from 2006-08.
The
Blue Hens of Delaware are the No. 5 seed, finishing at 9-10 overall and 4-4 in
the CAA. After missing last year's championship, Delaware will look for its
third CAA crown in school history, winning most recently in 2009.
Towson
earns the No. 6 seed after upsetting Northeastern on Sunday afternoon. The
Tigers finished the regular season with a 10-9 overall record and 4-4 mark in
CAA play. It will be Towson's first CAA postseason play since 2008.
Admission
to the CAA Championship is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for youth 12 and younger.
Students from the participating institutions will receive free admission with a
college ID.
