GEORGIA STATE'S VERDUN LEADS PRESEASON ALL-CAA VOLLEYBALL TEAM

RICHMOND, Va. (August 23, 2011) - Georgia State senior middle blocker Vineece Verdun has been selected as the 2011 CAA preseason volleyball Player of the Year in a vote by the league's head coaches. Joining Verdun on the preseason All-CAA squad are Delaware's Alissa Alker and Kim Stewart, George Mason's Noelle Fanella, James Madison's Danielle Erb and Northeastern's Janelle Tucker.

Verdun finished the 2010 season ranked first in the league in points (460.5) and points per set (4.19). The Bloomfield Hills, Mich. native also finished second in kills (372), kills per set (3.38) and hitting percentage (.317) en route to receiving first team All-CAA honors. 

Alker, a third team All-CAA selection last year, finished fourth in the CAA in points (431.0) last year. The junior outside hitter also ranked fourth in kills (369) on the way to helping Delaware earn the 2010 CAA volleyball title.

Senior outside hitter Kim Stewart ranked second for the Blue Hens in service aces (35) and was third in kills (302). She was also ninth in the league in service aces per set (0.29).

Fanella returns after earning second team All-CAA honors in 2010. The senior outside hitter led George Mason in points (314), kills (256) and aces (39). 

James Madison's Erb led the league in kills (389) and kills per set (3.41) in 2010. A second team All-CAA selection last year, Erb also finished second in the CAA in points per set (3.99).

Tucker, the 2010 CAA Co-Rookie of the Year, ranked seventh in the conference in kills per set (3.05) and eighth in points per set (3.46). The outside hitter also ranked second on the Huskies squad with 348 kills and 320 digs.
