RICHMOND, Va. (April 30, 2011) -- The field is set for the 2011 CAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships. A 9-4 win for Hofstra over Penn State in Saturday’s regular-season finale for both teams finalized the pairings for a set of two semifinal games Wednesday, May 4.

The tournament opens with a pair of semifinals Wednesday as top-seeded and eighth-ranked Hofstra (13-1, 5-1 in CAA) hosts the fourth seed Delaware (9-6, 4-2 in CAA) at 7 p.m., while second-seeded and 20th-ranked Penn State (7-6, 4-2 in CAA) entertains third-seeded No. 19  Massachusetts (9-4, 4-2 in CAA) at 7 p.m. The winners will meet Saturday, May 7, in the CAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship game at the site of the highest remaining seed.  Opening faceoff time of the Championship game will be determined following the semifinal contests.

Hofstra, which returns to the CAA Championships field after missing the league’s postseason affair in 2010, earned the top-seed thanks to its victory over Penn State Saturday and a 5-1 league mark.  Penn State, which finished last season with a 1-4 mark, is making its first CAA postseason appearance in just its second year of play in the CAA.  The Nittany Lions ended the year with a 4-2 league mark and held tiebreaking wins over both Massachusetts and Delaware.  The Minutemen are making their second-straight championships appearance in just their second season in the league.  UMass lost a one-goal game at home to Penn State earlier this season.  Delaware, which was the only squad to beat Hofstra in league play this season, has been a part of the championships field now seven times since 2004.
