DREXEL MEN'S SOCCER CLEANS LOCAL PARK FOR EARTH DAY
PHILADELPHIA - On
Saturday, April 17
th, members of the Men's Soccer Team participated
in The 3
rd Annual Earth Day Project sponsored by CANDU (Community
Alumni Network at Drexel University) and Drexel's Alumni Office.
These
projects are designed to join alumni and current students together through
service to the community. This year, student-athletes from men's soccer
volunteered in an area of Fairmont Park's Cobbs Creek section, cleaning,
clearing and beautifying this public recreation space for the benefit of local
residents.
After an
orientation by the Fairmont Park Commission, the soccer team members could be found
on the south slope of the park that overlooked a multi-purpose track, baseball
and football field. The area was heavily overgrown with native plants,
shrubs and trees along with rubbish which made it very unwelcoming.
With a
pioneering of spirit, the soccer team tackled this enormous project including
stump removal, dead tree limb removal and tree planting. The job was
extremely satisfying, gave them a chance to be in the sun and fresh air and
appreciate how important it is to take time for the good earth...Go
Dragons!
The team
intends to participate in future CANDU events in the future. For more
