CAA ANNOUNCES SILVER ANNIVERSARY TEAM FOR WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

RICHMOND, Va. (February 4, 2010) - The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its women's track and field Silver Anniversary team, which includes 16 All-America honorees, eight CAA Athletes of the Year and three athletes who competed in the Olympic Games.

As part of its 25th Anniversary celebration in 2009-10, the CAA is recognizing Silver Anniversary teams in 21 championship sports.  The teams are selected by a panel of current and former coaches in the conference.

Women's track and field has been a championship sport in the CAA since 1990. George Mason dominated the conference at the outset, winning the first nine CAA titles (1990-98). William and Mary took over from there, capturing nine of the last 11 CAA championships, including six straight from 2001-06. East Carolina won its only CAA title in 2000 and Northeastern was the CAA champion in 2007.

Numerous individuals have excelled on the national and international level. George Mason's Diane Guthrie-Gresham won three national championships in the long jump and two in the heptathlon, and was a Honda Award winner in 1995. The Patriots' Kim Saddic was the NCAA champion in the 10,000 meters in 1992. James Madison's Tiombe' Hurd, a five-time All-American, is the current U.S. record-holder in the triple jump (47-5).
