RICHMOND, Va. (December 15, 2009) - William and Mary senior Emily Anderson (Golf, Ill.), who received all-region and all-conference honors in 2009, was chosen as the CAA women's cross country Athlete of the Year in voting by the league's head coaches.

James Madison freshman Stacey Nobles (Virginia Beach, Va.) was selected as the CAA women's cross country Rookie of the Year and W&M head coach Kathy Newberry was named CAA Coach of the Year.

Anderson captured the individual title at the CAA Women's Cross Country Championship for the second year in a row, posting a time of 20:35 over the 6K course to win the event by a convincing 14 seconds. The time was the second-fastest ever at the conference championship and helped lead the Tribe to the team title for the seventh year in a row. Anderson went on to earn All-Southeast Region accolades after placing 17th at the NCAA Southeast Regionals with a time of 21:01 in the 6K race. She also received All-East honors after finishing fifth at the 5K ECAC Championship.

Nobles was the top freshman finisher at the CAA Women's Cross Country Championship, placing fourth with a time of 20:59 on the 6K course. The effort earned her All-CAA honors and helped lead the Dukes to a second-place team finish. Nobles received All-East accolades after finishing eighth at the ECAC Championship. She also posted a 32nd place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regionals, narrowly missing All-Region honors. Nobles is the first JMU runner to earn Rookie of the Year honors since 2002.

Newberry was selected as the CAA Coach of the Year for the second straight season and the third time in her career after guiding William and Mary to its seventh consecutive conference championship. The Tribe later placed fourth at the NCAA Southeast Regionals, which matched the 1998 squad for the best finish ever for W&M at the event. They completed their season by placing second at the ECAC Championship.

The conference also recognized its 2009 All-CAA women's cross country team, which is made up of the top 12 finishers from the CAA Championship.
