Things looked good for the Tribe early, as it held HU to 0-of-7 shooting to begin the contest and jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes of the contest.
While the Lady Pirates cut the lead to just two on multiple occasions, W&M broke open the game with a 15-2 run to build a 25-10 advantage with 8:34 remaining in the half. Six different Tribe players contributed points during the im-pressive stretch.
Hampton answered with a 6-0 spurt, however, and closed the gap to 25-17 when the College called a timeout with 6:36 showing.

The Lady Pirates answered with a run of their own, though, and tallied 14 of the next 16 points to claim a 51-48 lead following a three-pointer by Bernadette Fortune with 14:00 remaining.

Although a free throw by Fortune pushed the lead to 70-66, W&M had a chance to cut the margin to one but sophomore Taysha Pye's three-point attempt from the right wing missed and HU's Brenna Jones secured the rebound.
