WNBA'S TAMERA YOUNG TRADED TO CHICAGO
HARRISONBURG, Va., Aug. 12, 2009 -- Former James Madison All-America basketball player Tamera Young ('08) has been traded from the WNBA's Atlanta Dream to the Chicago Sky.
Chicago traded third-year guard Armintie Price to Atlanta for Young, a second-year WNBA player. The trade announcement was made Wednesday by Chicago head coach and general manager Steven Key.
“The addition of Tamera to our roster will be huge for us," Key was quoted on the Chicago Sky website. "We’ve been struggling under the basket, and it’s been obvious that our rebounding isn’t where it should be. Tamera is 6-2 and will help contribute to crashing the boards."
Young played in just 11 of Atlanta's first 44 games this season, when she averaged 2.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 6.5 minutes per contest.
Last season Young played in 33 games and started 15 in her rookie season with the expansion Atlanta team. She averaged 7.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 22.6 minutes per game in the 2008 season.
According to the Chicago Sky website, the Sky is continuing to finalize its roster in anticipation of making it to the playoffs. Chicago has 11 regular-season games remaining before the WNBA regular season concludes on Sept. 13. The Sky is currently in fifth-place in the Eastern Conference standings; the top four teams will make the playoffs.
