RICHMOND, Va. (August 20, 2008) ? Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner Tom Yeager has announced the hiring of Kathryn F. “Katie” Lowe to the newly created position of Director of Basketball Strategies.

Lowe’s duties at the CAA will include developing strategic initiatives for basketball in the areas of marketing and scheduling, with an emphasis on women’s basketball. She will also be involved in the operation of the CAA men’s and women’s basketball championships. Lowe will report to Ron Bertovich, the CAA Deputy Commissioner of Basketball Operations.

“We are excited about the knowledge and ideas that Katie will bring to our staff after working on the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball championship staffs,” Yeager said. “The CAA has made great strides in basketball over the past several years and we think the addition of Katie will allow us to build on that success.”

Lowe has worked for the past 14 months at the NCAA office in Indianapolis, Ind. as the Division I men’s and women’s basketball intern. In that role, she provided assistance to the directors of the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball championship and their staffs. Lowe was involved in the selection process for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship and also helped in the operation of the event. She served as a liaison for transportation and travel needs of the NCAA staff and basketball committee during the championship.

Prior to working at the NCAA, Lowe spent a year as an intern at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Among her duties with the ODAC were managing numerous conference and NCAA championships, including the Division III national championships in volleyball, football and men’s basketball.

Lowe is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Hollins University in Roanoke, Va., where she played volleyball for three seasons and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
