CAA FOOTBALL EARNS HIGH PRAISE FROM TWO MORE 2008 PRESEASON PUBLICATIONS
RICHMOND, Va. (July 18, 2008) -- Already earning some of the nation’s highest preseason praise, CAA Football logged an impressive notation in the Phil Steele College Football Preview. The league also can boast multiple teams in the USA Today Sports Weekly preseason rankings.
The Phil Steele preseason publication listed a total of five CAA Football squads on its preseason Top-25. Headlining the group is South Division power James Madison, which the publication lists as the overall No. 1. Even more impressive is the fact CAA Football logged four spots in the ranking’s Top-5 positions. Defending champion Richmond came in at No. 3, Delaware was No. 4 and the league’s other defending title holder Massachusetts earned a spot at No. 5. New Hampshire was the fifth league squad to earn a spot in the Top-25, coming in at No. 11. Two more CAA Football programs are listed just outside the publication’s Top-25, as both Hofstra and Villanova are considered “The Best of the Rest.”
Six CAA Football squads appear among the Top-25 of USA Today Sports Weekly’s College Football Preview. The Dukes of JMU again earn the highest spot among the league schools, coming in at No. 4. Massachusetts also earned a spot in the Top-5 at No. 5. Richmond is listed at No. 7, while Villanova earned a spot at No. 16. Delaware is listed at No. 19, and New Hampshire rounds out the league’s total of six at No. 22.
CAA Football’s 2008 regular season is set to kick off Aug. 28 when Northeastern travels to Ball State and Hofstra takes on Connecticut. The first CAA Football league contests of 2008 will take place Sept. 13 when New Hampshire visits Rhode Island, Towson travels to Richmond and Massachusetts heads south to take on James Madison.
