TOWSON AND DREXEL GARNER WEEKLY SWIMMING & DIVING HONORS
The CAA honored four athletes for their performance last
week. Towson’s Hillary Rieveley has been named CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
and Drexel’s Kate Hynes has been named CAA Women’s Diver of the Week.
Delaware’s Andrew Zinn has been named CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week and
Towson’s Bradley Bolin has been named CAA Men’s Diver of the Week.
Rieveley won two individual events and was a member of two
winning relay teams as Towson defeated Delaware. The junior from Wyomissing,
Pa., won the 50 freestyle (24.42) and the 100 freestyle (53.10). She also swam
the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay team and a part of the winning 400
freestyle relay team.
Hynes continued her impressive season, posting second place
finishes at the Georgia Diving Invitational. The junior from Brookville, Pa.,
totaled 279.20 points on both boards. The junior was only 1.40 points behind
first place on the one meter board.
Zinn posted the fastest time in the CAA this season and set
the Rawstrom Natatorium record in the 50 freestyle (20.44). The senior from
Wilmington, Del., also captured the 100 freestyle in 46.62, his fastest time of
the season. He also was on the winning 200 medley relay team.
Bolin scored a personal record 260.03 points on the three
meter board last weekend. The score is the ninth-best mark in the CAA this
season.
In other women’s swimming news, Northeastern topped James
Madison, 172-121. The Huskies were led by sophomore Kathrine Fugge who posted
wins in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle. Brittany Gilles won the three meter
board and finished second on the one meter board. The Dukes were led by Jamie
Coyle. The senior set personal records in both diving events, including a
235.00 point winning effort on the one meter board.
Towson’s women’s team defeated Delaware, 193-101 last
Saturday. The Tigers were led by Rieveley who won two individual events and
helped them win two relays. The win was Towson’s fourth straight dual meet
victory. Delaware was led by Shannon Burke, who won both the one meter and
three meter boards.
The George Mason women traveled to the Orange Bowl Classic
and finished in first place behind a strong effort by Sarah Bizer. The senior
won the 50 butterfly and was a member of two first place relay teams. The UNC
Wilmington women’s team defeated North Florida and fell to Florida State last
weekend. Danielle Mortensen paced the Seahawks, posting wins in the 500 and
1,000 freestyle.
In other men’s swimming action, Delaware topped Towson,
186-101. The Blue Hens were led by Zinn and John Ohlhaver, who also captured
three events for Delaware. The Blue Hens won 11 events during their meet with
Towson. UNC Wilmington fell to Florida State despite Luke Murphy capturing both
the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events. George Mason tied for first at the Orange
Bowl Classic, with Ryan David winning the 100 backstroke.
