Three CAA men's soccer players have received All-America honors from the NSCAA. Old Dominion senior midfielder Nane Joseph was selected to the second team while UNC Wilmington junior defender Indy Smith and William and Mary senior forward Andrew Hoxie were named to the third team.
The CAA also dominated the NSCAA All-South Atlantic region team with 16 players honored, including six on the first team.
Joseph led the Monarchs in scoring with 15 points on six goals and three assists. He led ODU and the CAA with four game winning goals and was a perfect four-for-four on penalty kicks. He is the seventh Monarch to earn All-America honors since Alan Dawson became coach in 1997.
Smith, who is UNCW's first NCAA All-America selection, started all 22 matches for the Seahawks and helped anchor a defensive unit that limited CAA foes to six goals on the season. The 6-4 junior centerback played all but two minutes on the season. He also broke through for a pair of goals on the season, including the game-winner against Towson in conference action.
Hoxie was the top offensive performer in the CAA in 2009, tying for the conference lead with 10 goals and topping the league with 12 assists and 32 points. The CAA Player of the Year, who ranked third in the nation in assists per game and 11th in points per game, tallied at least one point in 12 of the Tribe’s 19 contests.
Joseph, Smith and Hoxie were joined by Hofstra senior defender Richard Martinez, William and Mary junior midfielder Nathaniel Baako and James Madison junior forward CJ Sapong on the All-South Atlantic region first team.
Making the all-region second team were UNC Wilmington junior goalkeeper Brock Duckworth, UNCW senior defender David Acosta, W&M senior defender Roger Bothe, George Mason senior midfielder Richard Edgar and Towson sophomore forward Liam Maloney.
Named to the all-region third team were George Mason senior goalkeeper Sean Kelley, Hofstra senior defender Jamal Neptune, Drexel senior midfielder Fabio Assumpcao, Hofstra senior midfielder Rob Youhill and Delaware senior forward Darren Christie.
