Music Education Donation
RICHMOND, Va. (September 5, 2012) - CAA Commissioner Tom
Yeager presented a check for $1,000 to support music education in the Richmond
Public Schools on behalf of the conference and its members during a school
board meeting on Tuesday night.
During the CAA men's basketball championship last March, pep
bands from several CAA universities conducted a special performance entitled "Breakfast
with the Bands" at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. At the conclusion of
the free event, several of the band leaders and band members spoke passionately
about the role of music education in their lives. They then dedicated the
performance to the music department of the Richmond Public Schools and asked
the assembled crowd of approximately 1,000 people to make a financial
contribution as they exited.
"Our sincere thanks goes out to the many talented band
directors and band members in the CAA who took time out of their schedules to
put on an outstanding show, and to those who made donations to support such a
worthy cause," Yeager said. "Our hope is that this donation will benefit and
support the young students in the Richmond schools who find the love of music
an important part of their educational experience."
