WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (May 2, 2008) ? William & Mary overcame a three-goal halftime deficit to defeat Delaware, 15-14 in the semifinals of the 2008 CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The Tribe will face Towson in the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Tribe was led by senior Jaime Sellers who scored five goals on only six shots. Sellers broke the 30-year old goals in a season record at William & Mary with 65. CAA Rookie of the Year Grace Golden scored two goals, both in the second half, and added one assist. Fellow freshman Ashley Holofcener netted a pair of goals, including the game winner, and added one assist. Emily Geary was solid in goal for the Tribe with 10 saves.

Delaware scored the final four goals of the first half to take a 9-6 lead into the break. William & Mary came out hot in the second half, with Julia Martin scoring 50 seconds into the second half. Sellers rattled off three straight goals in less than three minutes to put the Tribe ahead by one. Neither team went ahead by more than one in the final 26:34 of the game when there were six ties and three lead changes. Holofcener scored the game-winning goal with 6:56 remaining on a free position shot.

Delaware’s Casey McCrudden scored four goals on four shots in the first half, three of them consecutively. Katie Muth scored three goals with one assist and Emily Schaknowski had four assists for the Blue Hens.

William & Mary will face Towson on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Albert-Daly Field in Williamsburg, Va. Livestats will be available on www.caasports.com.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (May 2, 2008) ? Towson defeated George Mason, 8-7, in the second semifinal game at the CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The Tigers advance to face William & Mary on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Towson was led by CAA Player of the Year Hillary Fratzke, who scored four of the Tigers eight goals. The junior also added one assist. Three of Fratzke’s goals came in the first half.

Neither team ever had more than a one-goal lead during the game that had seven ties and four lead changes. The game was tied 4-4 at halftime. Fratzke started the scoring in the second half with a goal only 26 seconds into the period. George Mason’s Laura King and Alana Chan scored back-to-back goals on free position shots to put Mason ahead 6-5 with 22:32 remaining. The teams traded goals and with 19:32 remaining Towson’s Lacey Jennings took a Fratzke pass and scored the tying goal. Neither team would score until the Tigers’ Britt Woodfield scored with :37 seconds remaining to put Towson up for good.

Towson goalkeeper Mandy Corry recorded a pair of saves in the final 30 seconds to preserve the Towson victory.

George Mason was led by Laura King with two goals and one assist. Chelsea Gamble added a pair of goals for the Patriots.
