POST-SEASON HONORS ROLL IN FOR CAA MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYERS
Eight CAA men's basketball players have received national post-season honors from a variety of publications and web sites over the past week.
VCU junior guard Eric Maynor earned honorable menton on the Associated Press All-America team. The CAA Player of the Year was also selected to the Mid-Major All-America squad by CollegeInsider.com and was named to the High Major All-America second team by CollegeHoops.net. Maynor ranked second in the CAA in scoring with 17.9 points per game and led the conference with 5.5 assists per contest.
George Mason senior forward Will Thomas joined Maynor on the CollegeHoops.net High Major All-America second team, while Hofstra senior guard Antoine Agudio received honorable mention on that team. Thomas, a first-team All-CAA selection, led the league with 10.4 rebounds per game, ranked fourth in scoring with 16.1 ppg and was second in the conference and sixth in the nation in field goal percentage (64.2%). He finished his career among the top 10 in George Mason history in scoring and rebounding.
Agudio averaged a league-best 22.7 points per game and topped the conference with 3.1 three-pointers made per game. The two-time All-CAA first team pick finished his career with 2,276 points, which was the most in Hofstra history and the fourth-highest total ever for a CAA player. He also led the Pride and ranked second in the CAA in career 3-pointers with 357.
Hofstra guard Charles Jenkins was selected to the CollegeHoops.net High-Major Freshman All-America team and the Freshman Mid-Major All-America squad chosen by CollegeInsider.com. The CAA Rookie of the Year ranked 10th in the conference in scoring with 15.0 points per game and tallied double figures in 27 of his last 28 contests.
Joining Jenkins on the CollegeInsider.com Freshman Mid-Major All-America squad was VCU freshman center Larry Sanders. A member of the CAA's All-Defensive and All-Rookie squads, Sanders led the conference with 95 blocked shots, which was the seventh-highest season total in league history. He also contributed 4.9 points and a team-best 5.2 rebounds per game.
Drexel senior forward Frank Elegar was named to the CollegeInsider.com Defensive All-America squad. Elegar, who also made the CAA All-Defensive team, ranked third in the CAA with 59 blocked shots and was fourth in the conference in rebounding with 8.0 per game.
Receiving honorable mention on the CollegeHoops.net High-Major Freshman All-America squad were Delaware guard Alphonso Dawson and UNC Wilmington guard Chad Tomko. Dawson, who was a member of the CAA All-Rookie team, averaged 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Blue Hens. Tomko, who also made the CAA All-Rookie squad, contributed 8.6 points per game and was second on the Seahawks with 82 assists.
